Buff Breasted Sandpiper

This Buff Breasted Sandpiper was seen on Flamborough Golf Course mainly feeding on one of the greens but when a group of golfers appeared it would head for the long grass. Fantastic views, but very poor light and very windy conditions, however a most rewarding bird and a lifer for me - tick.

It just doesn't matter how common the Robin is, it is such a beaufiful bird, I just had to submit these pictures to the blog - enjoy.

Osprey Nest

I dropped in to Rutland Water on the way down to Peterborough to visit some friends, what a fantastic place. The ospreys had left and gone back home, but a sighting of a young bird in the morning was promising but it did not re-appear. The nest looked astonishing just left abandoned sitting proud on top of its pole.

Huge amounts of waterfowl on the water with Tufted Duck, Pochard, Teal, Wigeon, Mallard, Shoveler and Pintail all present. There also had been reports of Red Crested Pochard, Little Egret and a Hobby seen during the day.

Common Hawker

Two Common Hawkers at the pond in the top scrub at Filey Country Park. Even though they are called Common Hawker they are not that common. After some time chasing them around the pond for a decent photo, they eventually got use to us and started to become quite friendly as you can see from the photo above.

Jacksons Bay - A trip down the cliff side and on to the beach gave me great views of Oystercatcher, Turnstone, Redshank and Ringed Plover. The Sand Martin colony was very busy with lots of young birds still flying around the holes as well as a Weasel was popping its head out of a vacant hole waiting for the off chance of a young Sand Martin dropping in for a rest. Walking back along the cliff top I was lucky enough to catch a Whimbrel on a fly pass.
