Filey Brigg and Filey Dams

Sanderling

Knot

Turnstone

Oystercatcher

Redshank

Kestrel

Cormorant

Drake Eider

Fieldfare

Starling

Drake Teal

Drake Gadwall

A pleasant trip out to Filey Brigg and Filey Dams on a very sunny warm day in October. As a sign of Autumn all the drake ducks were back in full plumage and a large influx of Blackbirds, Redwings and Fieldfares were on the country park and top scrub.

It was great to see large groups of waders back on the brigg, and also 16 Sanderling in the bay corner. The Dams was very quite with just the Teal and Gadwall showing very well.

Scarborough Mere & Peasholm Park

Mute Swan

Black Swan

Chinese Goose

Grey-lag-goose

Grey Squirrel

Hybrid Goose

Mallard

Moorhen

Tufted Duck (female)
An afternoon spent walking around Scarborough Mere and Peasholm Park (where else can you take a pram?) gave me the opportunity to take some pictures of some of our common species with a few oriental ones thrown in for good measure.

Forge Valley Bird Tables

Robin

Nuthatch

Marsh Tit

Great Tit

Great Spotted Woodpecker

Chaffinch

Blue Tit

Another dull cold day so I thought I would brighten the day up a bit with a trip to Forge Valley feeding station. The birds were very active, lots of food had been put out on the tables attracting lots of different species.

Flamborough and Bempton

Brambling

Goldcrest

Grey Partridge
A very quite trip to Flamborough via Bempton produced the above birds. A very miserable day, hence the lack of quality in the pics. Very pleasing seeing the Grey Partridge, not as wide spread any more like the Red Legged.

Scalby Mills

Kingfisher

Kestrel

A walk along the cliffs from Scalby Mills starting with a scan of the rock pools I came across the Kingfisher diving in constantly for small fish. A Kestrel was patrolling the cliff tops looking for its dinner.

Red Flanked Bluetail

What a mega bird this was. Very lucky to see this bird as soon as i arrived at Old Fall. Wouldn't sit around for long as the local Robins didn't like it intruding on there patch. Just could not get a decent image, but check out Dave Mansells and Terry Hobsons blogs through my links.

Barred Warbler

Barred Warbler seen in Trough Gulley just along from Scalby Lodge Pond. Was showing quite well for throughout the morning, but very hard to get a decent image. The above shots are digiscoped images from some distance. However another lifer for me, so i came home happy.

Peregrine Falcon

The pair of Peregrine Falcons have been showing very well the last couple of days, quite tricky getting a flight shot of the fastest bird on the planet, just need a decent lens and who knows what may happen??

Tufted Duck

A day out at Harewood House, Leeds, West Yorkshire and a walk around the amazing "Bird Garden", finger firmly held on shutter and I came up with the above collection of images. If you have not been to Harewood I seriously recomend it, not only to see what the bird garden has to offer but also to walk around the lake and to see the Red Kite Project in which now there has been 40 pairs released back in to the wild since the project started back in 1999 - take a look at my post "Red Kite" for images of this majestic bird in flight.

Marine Drive & Harbour

Great Black Backed Gull

Herring Gull

Guillemot

Turnstone

Peregrine Falcon

Shag

Cormorant

An afternoon walk around the marine drive to the harbour and back resulted in a pleasant few hours birding. Lots of Guillemots in the North Bay and the harbour plus one young Razorbill.
A flock of 22 Turnstone were busy feeding on the slipway in the harbour and several lazy Great Black Backed Gulls were sitting on the posts on the harbour side. As I walked back around the Marine Drive I came across a young shag sat on the rocks before it jumped in to the sea patrolling around for its tea.

Brown Flycatcher

Red Backed Shrike

Isabelline Shrike

A trip to Flamborough to see the first for Britain - The Brown Flycatcher (lifer). Did see the bird not the best of views and did not get a picture but it was a tick, will try again early tomorrow. Also seen at Flamborough - Merlin, Red Backed Shrike and Yellow Browed Warbler (lifer).
On the way home popped in to Buckton for more views of the Isabelline Shrike which again was showing well, but from a distance. All bird images above are digiscoped.

Red Kite

Took a trip with the family to Harewood House to try and photograph the Red Kite which has been introduced here since 2001. Early morning the light was very dull, in the afternoon the light got a lot better, but birds kept there distance. The above shots are enlarged considerably hence the lack of sharpness.

Isabelline Shrike

This bird has been present at Buckton for the last couple of days. The above shots are all digiscoped images from a distance hence the lack of sharpness. The bird was ringed this morning by the regional ringing group, note the ring on the right leg on image 1 and 4 - another lifer for me.
