Whitby Harbour

Herring Gull

Eider

Old Lifeboat

New Lifeboat

A trip with the family to Whitby Harbour proved to be a fun day out, not only for the ice cream and fish & chips but gaining some decent pics of a drake Eider diving for crabs on the harbour bottom. There had also been reports of a Red Throated Diver but I did not see one whilst I was there.

Lovely clear shots, I'd never have thought that an Eider would show up in Whitby harbour.

I'll have to keep eyes open next time where up there.

Paul.

Thanks Paul, it was good to see a drake Eider this close and feeding on crabs as well, what a bonus. Its always worth a good look around the harbour at Whitby, you never know what you might come across.

If you had gone a bit further south to Bridlington you might have seen a red throated diver in the harbour. It's been around most of March and was there yesterday (4 April).
